I was born in California,
but moved to Salem Oregon at a young age. Both
parents worked outside of the home and I have fond
memories of my child care. In 1994 I got an
Associates Degree in "Visual Communications", where
I used my knowledge to work in a local print/copy
center, where I then met my future husband. We had
some ups and downs with finding the right day care
situation with my first born, until one dreaded day,
I received a phone call to come pick her up from
care, because she was "having a bad day". After a
few minutes of talking with my daughter, I realized
she had been physically injured by her provider. I
vowed from that point on, this would NEVER happen
again! Later, after the birth of my 2nd child, I
decided to become a Registered In-Home Family Child
Care Provider. I may have only started with watching
two children in my home, but 11 years later, and a
very full and happy home, I still LOVE what I do!
Family child care and Oregon Family Child Care
Network has given me many opportunities that working
outside the home would never have. For example,
being "THERE" for all three of my children as they
learned to walk, talk, and grow. And the leadership
skills that have been bestowed to me as President of
OFCCN. It has all been very rewarding, and I
wouldn't change a thing! |

I'm Lisa Uhl, I live in
Tigard and have loved children for as long as I
remember. Throughout high school and college young
children have been a constant in my life. Working in
child care centers, Montessori school, as well as
other early childhood practicum experiences, my
career was on the very path it has remained for 30+
years. Shortly after college, getting married and
moving to Salt Lake City, my first employment was in
a large child care center built like a public
school. My class of 18 four and five year olds was
my first set of children. However, very quickly we
started our own family and after the birth of my
son, I couldn’t leave him in family child care while
I worked with other people’s children. I went out on
my own, beginning in home child care. After having
another little boy we decided to move back to
Montana.
We eventually made our more permanent home in
Bozeman Montana where I named my child care “Lisa’s
Little Ones Early Care And Education”. We added 2
more children to our family, both girls. I was very
involved in the Montana Child Care Association at
the state level. I was on the board of the Inclusive
Child Care project, was one of the first state
mentoring team members and was a state improvement
project grant recipient 3 different times. I was
also on a team that helped rewrite the National
Association for Family Child Care standards in the
late 1990s. Montana was super at support for family
child care. In 1999, I was honored to attend Dr.
Becky Bailey’s Conscious Discipline week long
seminar. Through the following year, implementing
this program, I earned a Certified Conscious
Discipline Instructor certificate and can now teach
this to parents and early childhood educators.
Our family moved to Oregon in 2001 where I continue
my work with Lisa’s Little Ones. I completed my
Masters Degree in 2007, am an Oregon Master Trainer
and have recently became accredited once again. I am
a strong advocate of National Association for Family
Child Care Accreditation. I’m a strong believer that
a person should follow their passion in life, then
be the best you can be. This is what brings me to
the point I am today. |

I have been a Registered
Daycare Provider in Salem since December of 1993. I
realized after a 5 month maternity leave from Oregon
Dept of Resources with my first child, that I just
couldn't leave her to go back to work. I have been
fortunate to have been successful in this business
and it has allowed me to raise my kids the way I
want, to spend that extra time with them & be there
when they had their firsts. I've had many families
in my care over the years and some I have formed
lasting relationships. In fact, the babysitter I had
for my children was the daughter of one of my first
daycare families.
I have served on the
board in different positions for Salem Home Child
Care Association since 2003, and have been on the
board for OFCCN since 2010 and enjoy the challenges
as well as the friendships I have formed while
volunteering for these non profit organizations.
Currently I am taking online classes to further my
education for a degree in the medical field, one of
my lifelong ambitions, but in the meantime I'm
enjoying being a mom to my 3 children as well as my
'extended family'. |

I've been a home-based
child care provider in Prineville (34 miles west of
Bend) for over 23 years and have served my community
as a mentor, coordinator, support, and advocate for
child care in many capacities. I have three children
who have grown into successful adults who continue
to make me proud everyday! I love that my job
allowed me to stay home with my children and help
out family members with their children. I have had
all of my nieces and nephews in my care at one time
or the other, as well as numerous others who have
passed through.
I think one of the best
compliments that I have ever received was from a
mother who told me that I taught her child to
"love". No other job gives us this! I have served on
the board of OFCCN for several years as their
website manager and board member at large. I love
the friends I've made in this organization and feel
that we do valuable work to support child care in
Oregon. |

My name is Sabrina
Anderson and I have been a childcare provider in our
gold beach community for 17yrs. My husband and I
have been married for 22 yrs and we were blessed
with two wonderful children our son who is now 18
and our daughter who is 21, our daughter also
blessed us with a grandson who is now 2 yrs old. I
started in the field of childcare with the thought
of being able to raise my own children thinking this
was something I could do until they "get into
school" but not long after I started I thought to
myself what are these children (whom I started
caring for) going to do if I leave this field? At
this point I realized how important it was for
children to have a stable, caring environment where
they could grow, and how much I wanted to be a part
of it. Over the years I have been an active part of
our local childcare support group helping to unite
and support providers in our local community.
I have to say that
serving on the board of the Oregon Family Child Care
Network has been one of the most rewarding
experiences I have had, the friendships I have made
and the work that we do to support other providers
just like us. I had NEVER thought of myself as a
leader or someone who could teach others, until I
became a part of OFCCN and realized we all have
leadership skills to share,no matter how small,
being a part of this group has influenced me to
strive for bigger and better things for myself as a
person and as a provider. I recently reached step 7
of the Oregon Registry and became a certified set
one community trainer! Don't be afraid to step out
of that little box you call your comfort zone, you
do not realize the impact you may have on another
provider and what you may influence them to achieve. |

I began “babysitting” when
I had my daughter 12 years ago. It began with a few
neighborhood kids then blossomed into becoming
licensed and caring for 10 kids and doing more than
just “babysitting”. After about 5 years we had
outgrown our home and bought a bigger one, with a
finished daylight basement! This led me to becoming
a Certified Family Child Care for 15 kids. I have
dedicated the entire downstairs to my child care
with a separate entrance and its own kitchen and
bathroom. Working 12 hour days can be draining but I
feel my success has been dependant on the support of
my family.
During this time I was
also able to finish my Associated Degree at Umpqua
Community College, began teaching classes, mentoring
fellow Providers and eventually started a support
group for other Family Child Care Providers in my
area. Being part of OFCCN has given me the
opportunity to work with Providers from all over the
state to address the issues we all face in child
care. |
